NEW CHEVY SILVERADOS FOR SALE IN YORK, PA
In production now for over 20 years, the Chevrolet Silverado is a consistent contender for the best pickup truck of the year. Its combination of power, design, and amenities gives it an advantage over competitors in the segment of full-size, light-duty pickups, while the relatively low entry point of its base trim keeps it accessible to many consumers. If you, like many others, are interested in owning a Chevy Silverado, come take a look at some of the great things you can expect.
Chevy Silverado History
Today, auto buyers and enthusiasts know that the Silverado nameplate signifies power, reliability, and durability. The history of the Silverado as a standalone model reaches back to 1999, when Chevy introduced the vehicle as a light-duty pickup truck. With innovations such as a hydroformed vehicle frame and the then-new Vortec V-8 engine, it had a reputation for power from the start.
The Silverado has undergone numerous generational changes since its inception. In 2007, the second-generation Silverado, built on the full-size GMT900 platform, saw design evolutions such as a steep windshield rake angle and tighter panel gaps, which helped to improve the vehicle's efficiency. The third generation, in 2014, brought additional powertrain options and key structural improvements that reduced the vehicle's weight while improving its strength, efficiency, and performance.
The famed Chevy pickup model is now in its fourth generation, introducing features and updates consistent with the times. Well-appointed interiors, upscale infotainment systems, and even all-electric offerings are all available, or soon will be, in the Silverado lineup.
Chevy Silverado Features
Chevrolet offers the Silverado in a wide array of models, trims, and configurations. The regular Silverado 1500 is a ruggedly built half-ton pickup el that, at its largest, measures around 242 inches long, 81 inches wide, and 78 inches tall. Then there's the Silverado 2500HD, a three-quarter-ton model that gets up to around 266 inches long, 86 inches wide, and 80 inches tall.
Both the 1500 and the 2500HD models are available in regular-, double-, and crew-cab configurations. The Silverado 1500 offers more variety, giving you nine trim levels from which to choose. The 2500HD condenses your options to five but starts you off with higher performance even at the base level. For either one, the Work Truck trim signifies the low end, while the High Country trim represents the top of the range.
The Silverado Reputation
When you go for a Silverado, you know to expect plenty of power under the hood. With either the 1500 or the 2500HD, you have your choice of powertrain options. The Silverado 1500 offers a broader range in this respect. Whether you opt for an I-4, any of the multiple V-8s, or the diesel, you're getting a wealth of horsepower and torque. The 2500HD model offers you the choice between a versatile V-8 and a diesel powertrain, the latter of which generates 445 horsepower and an outrageous 910 lb-ft of torque.
Whichever model you choose, it's going to be capable of some tremendous hauling. Indeed, the Chevy Silverado is well known for its towing capacity. The smaller 1500 model is no runt when it comes to pulling power, having a maximum trailering capacity ranging from around 9,300 pounds to over 13,000 pounds. For the 2500HD, it's even greater, with a 14,500-pound capacity on the low end and a 20,000-pound capacity on the high.
The Silverado's Tech Features
The Silverado offers some of the best automotive tech to complement its performance. Along with the sizable touchscreen in the center cluster, you get an infotainment system supporting Chevrolet's Infotainment 3 software and integrated with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
In addition, the vehicle comes equipped with a host of standard driver-assistance features, with advanced features available as add-ons. Automated emergency braking, forward-collision warnings, lane-departure warnings, blind-spot monitoring, and rear-cross traffic alerts are among the available features. At the highest levels, such as the 1500 High Country, you even have the option for Super Cruise, GM's proprietary hands-free driving technology. Even when towing, you can use the Super Cruise feature to ensure safe, secure passage of your vehicle and trailer.
An Electric Silverado Future
In keeping with GM's commitment to an all-electric lineup, Chevrolet plans to release, quite soon, the first-ever Silverado EV. Built on GM's innovative Ultium platform the all-electric pickup represents a major step forward in the Silverado line. Even on looks alone, it will be unlike any of its predecessors. In place of a grille, the front end will feature a solid plate bearing the Chevrolet logo, while the bed will feature flying buttresses similar to those of the Chevy Avalanche.
The EV evolution of the Silverado doesn't compromise in terms of the famed Silverado power. In fact, consumers can expect something equivalent to most trims of the Silverado 1500. Powered by two electric motors, the vehicle has a 0-to-60 time of under 4.5 seconds. Reports state it gets up to 664 horsepower, greater than 780 lb-ft of torque, and up to 10,000 pounds of towing capacity. Moreover, according to Chevy, a more powerful model with a 20,000-pound towing capacity will later make its way into the lineup.
With all that, you still enjoy the stunning fuel economy of an electric vehicle. GM estimates that the Silverado EV will have a range of 400 miles on a single charge. It will come standard with DC fast-charging capability, while just 10 minutes of charging at a public station will add 100 miles to the range.
Additionally, the Silverado EV should be available in a range of trim levels, beginning with the base-level Work Truck and peaking with the RST, just ahead of the High Country level.
